Essay 4: Barriers to Evidence-Based Practice in Health System
Evidence based practices are important when it comes to nursing care and really all health care, but unfortunately these practices are not always followed, or they are short lived. In a recent review they found that common barriers internationally that affect the implementation of evidence-based practices are barriers due to lack of time, lack of support, and lack of skills (Naghibi, Mohammadzadeh & Azami-Aghdash, 2021). In my proposal, I feel two of those would most certainly apply as a potential barrier. The first one would be certainly lack of time, I am currently the only nurse in the office. I’m also the one who sees and visits with a majority of the multiple slcerosis patients, but while I would love to implement this change it would be difficult to run in and do an assessment and educate patients while seeing their provider if I have an infusion in another hall. The other barrier would be lack of support. As much as the providers seem engaged and interested in my proposal, they tend to be in and out of their appointments to start the next one. I would assume that if I took one of their rooms for too long, it may cause more problems in the future.

“The field of implementation science was developed to better understand the factors that facilitate or impede implementation and generate evidence for implementation strategies” (Powell et al., 2019).Two potential barriers for preventing the continuation of EBP based practice can be inadequate support from the administration, and management team. Another factor could be resistance to change or implement the new proposed change idea. Which is what I fear I will experience with implementing my change proposal .My project is about implementing change to retain our current nurses from leaving the profession and hiring new nurses. My strategy for overcoming these barriers are having individual meetings with the nurses that are wanting to leave and finding out why they are wanting to leave and what we can do to prevent that from happening. Also ensuring that the changes I am requesting are within the healthcare’s organizations policy.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument
